Just a night ago, my 17-year old, high school senior received his letter for football. I was so proud of him! He wasn't chosen MVP or anything like that. But he continued to go to practice and games, despite having nagging shoulder problems and a broken hand. He didn't participate and get to enjoy the fun of the game. But he did show up and that's what his letter indicates.
Today I met with my son, his physics teacher and his school councilor. He is failing physics. He has never failed a class before and he is in advanced subjects. He had the option of quitting the class and moving to an easier science class for the rest of the year. But instead we worked out time for him to meet with the teacher for extra help and we left feeling like he will be able to bring his grade up before the end of the semester. He didn't quit. He showed up. And I am proud!
